Why this role exists
Consensys Incorporated operates production blockchain infrastructure for financial institutions. Those networks don't stop at 18:00 CET, and today our infrastructure team sits mostly in Europe. This role closes that gap: you are our engineer on the ground when Europe is asleep.
This is a coverage-first role. Roughly 60% incident response, monitoring and operational hardening; 40% build work on the platform. If you want a pure greenfield engineering job, this isn't it — but you will be the first person in the timezone, which means you help design the rota rather than inherit it.
What you'll own
Front-line operational coverage for production networks during APAC hours — monitoring, triage, escalation, and running incidents to resolution.
Participation in (and help designing) a follow-the-sun on-call rota alongside the European team, replacing the arrangement we're transitioning off.
Deployment and maintenance windows scheduled in APAC hours: node upgrades, chain releases, coordinated maintenance.
Runbooks, alert tuning and observability improvements — specifically, turning the things you get paged for into things nobody gets paged for.
Platform build work between incidents: Kubernetes, GitOps, IaC, CI/CD pipelines.
Being the operational contact for APAC-based client and partner teams.
First 90 days
Ramp on the stack. Realistically this takes three months — Kubernetes, ArgoCD/GitOps, Ethereum clients, the Linea stack (sequencer, coordinator, prover), ZK proving. We will not put you on a pager before you're ready.
Shadow European incidents, then run them.
Take the first APAC on-call shift and write the runbook gaps you find.
What we are looking for
4+ years in DevOps/SRE/platform engineering, including real production on-call for a system with an external SLA.
Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code in anger (Terraform or equivalent); GitOps-based deployment.
Cloud depth — AWS primarily, Azure useful.
Observability as a practice, not a dashboard: Prometheus/Grafana, alerting design, SLIs and error budgets.
Comfortable being the only person awake on your continent: escalates early, writes things down, doesn't guess in production.
Scripting/automation — Python, Go or Bash.
Useful, not required
Ethereum or blockchain node operations (Besu, Geth, Teku, or similar) — we can teach this to a strong infra engineer.
Regulated-environment experience: change control, evidence, audit.
Java, or experience operating JVM services under load.
What this role is not
Not a 24/7 helpdesk. Not an escalation inbox. You're an engineer who happens to be the first line during your hours, and the expectation is that the operational load falls over time because of work you do.
